Cornuscopia - the Horn of Plenty
a tribute to Estonian forests
Aiming to highlight the issue of deforestation, it reminds that Estonians are a nation deeply rooted in the forest, with a long tradition of foraging that continues to this day.
The installation is created solely from locally sourced materials that seamlessly blend with the environment, becoming a natural part of the landscape throughout every stage of its existence.
An experiential artwork invites you to crawl inside and immerse yourself in 'forest-bound thoughts,' while being enchanted by the scent of sauna whisks, which refer to the rich tradition of Estonian sauna culture.
This cross-species visual artwork is both a visual delight for humans and a potential shelter for other species, symbolizing the diverse life forms that coexist in this environment.
The installation is also a collaboration with the forces of nature, which will continue to shape and evolve it after its unveiling.
Over 73 people from across Estonia contributed to its creation, from the local community to the farthest corners of the country. The plant ropes woven around the horn were crafted in workshops in Narva and Orissaare, symbolically connecting the entire country from one end to the other.
A large gathering from Piila village, Kuressaare, and even people from abroad came together for the opening, fostering a sense of community.
The first installation of the future Land Art Center was inaugurated in Piila village, located in the heart of Saaremaa island, on August 4th, 2024.
The artwork will be on display until Midsummer 2025. Its geographic coordinates are 58.412810, 22.546700
