Mid-October Riina O was invited to the weird and wonderful Beirut to teach the 3-day glove-making workshop at the Lebanese American University.

Beirut is an extraordinary place where gloves are mostly worn for fashion, not for function, unlike in most of Europe and the US these days. And whilst allegedly it does get chilly there in Winter, at the time of the visit it was 34c at night! Much cooler indoors though.

The lovely group of third year fashion students learned various stitching techniques working with the thin gloving leather, the students were guided through the adjustments of the standard size glove patterns to create an exact fit and instructed how to make the first sample glove, which some people managed to finish by the end of the 3-day workshop.

The workshop fell on the busy week of mid-term deadlines, so the dedication, patience and time put into it from the students was worth appreciating!

The weather was definitely favouring short and airy fashion gloves.

This year at London Craft Week Riina O was introducing the skills of making a simple archery-inspired fashion glove at our new London masterclass location - Carréducker Shool of Making. Very pleased to have joint such a skillful house on the long term basis, this was an opportunity for our first two classes.

The 4-hour workshops were both a great success, serving as a nice introduction to hand stitching soft gloving leather and creating a bold 2-finger glove.

For those who missed this occasion but would still love to dab their finger in the craft of glove making, there is another introductory archery-inspired glove making workshop at Carréducker coming up on the 22nd June 2019, with longer intensive courses to follow later in the year.

For more classes have a look at our workshops page!

Last month Riina O was invited to teach at Accademia Koefia in Rome, Italy the soon-to-be graduates of the Fashion Design course.

The week-long intense workshop comprised of glove pattern adjustment, learning to make gloves through trial (and occasional error) and designing as well as making the pair of hand-stitched leather gloves of one´s choice. The most diligent students even managed to finish the pair by the end of the workshop! Some pretty colourful gloves were made, which might be included in the students´ graduate fashion show later this year.

Those were five days full of fun and jokes. Some of which got even translated from Italian for me to understand.

Go Puppies! :)

Decembery Rome had plenty of sunshine along with occasional frost bites.

I hope to be back again in this beautiful historic city!

The first week of November Riina O travelled to a novel destination - all the way to China, to showcase at China Craft Week in Hangzhou, held at the Creative Design Centre.

From the 1st to the 5th of November Riina O was exhibiting and selling a selection of gloves and small accessories, featuring our newest collection "Luciferase" with the high-tech retroreflective leather detailing on luxurious leather gloves.

The exhibition brought together a number of top designers and makers from the UK, Ireland, Italy and Thailand, as well as China to display the diversity of handcraftsmanship and emphasis the personalisation of design.

On Saturday the 3rd of November the archery-inspired fashion glove making masterclass took place, introducing the workshop participants the basics of hand-stitching leather gloves and offering a new exciting experience.

It was a wonderful journey with many amazing people!  We are very thankful for this experience.

Riina O was delighted to be taking part of London Craft Week again this year, during the second week of May. This time we were invited to showcase at Bentleys Antiques in collaboration with Ascari bicycles from New York.

On the 11th and 12th May, Riina O was exhibiting a selection of gloves, doing the craft presentation and teaching two introductory archery-inspired glove masterclasses.

Bentleys Antiques is such a lovely treasure trove, selling the antiquities from around the world, collected by the owner Tim on his scavenger hunts. The exciting objects range from leather suitcases and other travel accessories to a refurbished seat from a fighter jet, reminding rather of a torture chair by its looks.

Especially for this event was created the first Riina O pair of luxurious made to measure unisex design of elegant leather cycling gloves, to accompany the gorgeous Ascari bicycles. The gloves are beautifully laser-cut for ventilation, inspired by the bicycl...

Riina O is delighted to be taking part of London Craft Week again this year.

This time we are showing at Bentleys Antiques in collaboration with Ascari bicycles from New York.

Riina O will be teaching the archery-inspired glove making workshop on the 11th and 12th May (a few tickets for Friday 11th May and Saturday 12th May events still available!) , exhibiting a selection of our gloves and doing the craft presentation.

We are very excited to announce that we will be revealing our first pair of luxurious hand-crafted leather cycling gloves, to accompany the gorgeous Ascari bicycles.

Helio Acari is the master bespoke bicycle maker from Brooklyn, New York, whom we had a chance to visit during our last trip to the USA. His stunning hand-crafted bicycles, partly covered with leather and some jewellery detailing, are the epitome of luxury and craftsmanship.

Our host Bentleys is a true destination antiques shop, holding the treasures throughout the ages from around the world. Sp...

A few weeks ago Riina O was invited to Denmark again - this time teaching the glove making workshop at the Copenhagen Academy of Fashion.

A group of students and recent graduates were lectured about the rich history of the glove design, got a handle on a variety of decorative stitches, learned to adjust the standard glove pattern and hand made a well fitting leather glove. The 5-day workshop allowed some time for the students to design their final pair of gloves and start making it.

As for me, I learned some Xhosa language from one of the students.

For the Danes who missed out on this workshop, do not worry - I will be back teaching there again over the two weekends in November 2018 and the workshop will be open to the public to sign up.

Stay tuned for more info...
