Have you ever imagined changing the colour of your gloves?
Riina O teamed up with the smart textile designer Kristi Kuusk to create two pairs of experimental colour changing Astra gloves.
The gloves are decorated with a screen-printed pattern using heat-sensitive pigments that react to the temperature change - in this case the heat of your hands - turning the stars from dark grey to light blue.
The futuristic element is highlighted by selecting stars as a hint to the space age and technological advancements. Thermochromic inks printed on leather explore the possibilities of the future, accessible already now.
There is also a more mysteriously shadow blue pair.
Our curiosity for new materials is never ending. It has lead our brand´s creative director to explore the Material Futures at CSM and beyond. Since early 2019 Riina has been the material research resident at the Green Lab in London. With the great excitement it´s time to reveal what we have been working on this year!
Kombucha is a fermented tea drink that grows layers of bacterial cellulose on its surface to create a barrier with oxygen. This symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast is shortly called SCOBY.
An odd light in the dark. Mysterious and attention drawing.
Riina O latest glove collection has been inspired by bioluminescence - the miracles of nature from underwater to the stars.
Our muse for the season is Arda Alden Green - an American biochemist from the early 20th century, who despite being overshadowed by the greater names, made remarkable discoveries of her own. One of those was the reaction responsible for firefly bioluminescence, found by isolating firefly luciferase. Never fully recognised for her work we´d like to take the chance to honour her achievements.
In this collection Riina O introduces a striking new material for elegant wear - the high-tech retroreflective leather, luminous in the dark. The concept is highlighted by the glove “points” stitched in similarly retroreflective thread.
Riina O gloves range from stylish dress gloves with a twist to classy casual models and outstanding hand accessories. Classical craftsmanship is accompanied by laser cut patterns...
Recently Riina O had the incredible occasion to collaborate on the pair of shoes made by the very talented Caroline Groves for the wonderful Hollywood actress Whoopi Goldberg!
Whoopi Goldberg, best known for starring in a ´90s movie "Sister Act", now a co-hostess of the TV talk show "The View" on ABC site, she is known to be a huge footwear fan.
These shoes by Caroline Groves are rather unique. Each shoe is in contrasting monochrome colour. In addition to the tiny pair of Riina O gloves one of the shoes, it is also bearing a little top hat and a walking stick, while another sports a veiled bowler hat with a little scarf.
Caroline says, the inspiration for the shoes came from her earlier work that Whoopi was infatuated with. She suggested the one white and one black shoe. One with top hat to represent her show business background and a bowler hat on the other toe in memory of her mother who used to wear a bowler.
The other collaborators on this pair of shoes were the mil...
Decluttering mind, eyes are turned to the Middle-East for inspiration.
Wide and clear open space of a desert, soft hues of pastel and tan leather is what inspired
Riina O latest gloves collection.
Our muse for this season is Miss Gertrude Bell - the supposed "Queen of the Desert". A rather remarkable lady who lived nearly 100 years ago, a strong woman who marched to the sound of her own drum(or the pace of her own caravan, to be correct), refusing to bend her ambitions to fit the accepted standards of her time.
Known as an a writer, politician, archaeologist, cultural anthropologist, traveller and explorer, who wandered alone(with her caravan) across deserts of Syria, Mesopotamina and Arabia, mapping them out and later being one of the key people in establishing the modern state of Iraq.
The collection entitled "Winter in Desert" features a selection of gloves in different lengths, that have become the brand´s classics.

In July I had an honour of being invited to the Glovers Livery event at the Drapers Hall in London.
The Worshipful Company of Glovers of London is an institution dating back to the middle ages, that has survived and adjusted to this day. The Company was formed in the middle of the 14th Century by glove makers in London who wished to protect the high standard of their craft.
Today the goal of the Glovers Guild is to preserve the century old traditions while mixing it with 21st Century business and charitable work. One of the charitable projects is the annual Student Glove Design competition, to which this luncheon was dedicated.
Held at the Drapers Hall I was mesmerised by the grandeur of the building. Built in the 18th-19th Centuries it looks utterly royal and has been repeatedly used in movies (such as "The King´s Speech", "GoldenEye", etc) as the Buckingham Palace doppergänger.
At the lunch for about 200 people I had a great opportunity to meet and talk to several members of the Livery a...
As today is officially the first day of Spring(even though it doesn´t really feel like it yet), lets have a look at our new Spring/Summer collection and lift the veil of what was the main source of inspiration for this one.
The collection´s design started off at a nice English rose garden, but pretty soon it took on a life of its own, turning into something that reminded of underwater jungle. Lush teal and forest green shades are sparkled up with luminous beading. Intricately laser cut gloves have taken on jewelry approach, having rich bead and sequin embroidery embellishments.
This season we introduce some new products: elaborate design chunky leather bracelets, adorned with cut out ornaments and some bearing semiprecious stones.
Black leather bracelet is bejeweled with an iridescent Moonstone, while forest green bracelet has an Amethyst on.
The theme was further explored within the collection editorial shoot concept. This season Riina O girl is an enchanting forest nymp...
